BLESSED TO BLESS - Proverbs 24:10-12

Topic: God Blesses us to be a blessing to others.

Today we are all here to learn another lesson in living from the book of Proverbs, the messages that we hear every Sunday are giving us a choice of what we ought to do and what we have to avoid. they also give us the wisdom on how we are supposed to live.


Our Topic today is Blessed to bless

Proverbs 24:10-12

10 If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength! 11 Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. 12 If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done?

We have been blessed v.10

King Solomon is simply saying that there is a possibility that there are times where we will fall or will be down/ disheartened…in times of trouble. Becoming a Christian will never make us a superhuman.

It also says how weak you are if you fall. But there is a strength in you and you have to develop it. You have to work it out. How??

You will find it in the presence of the Lord, ground yourself in the Word of God.

King David… he has been through with so much trouble, He was slandered, he was falsely accused, he felt like an outcast. King Saul wanted him dead, he faced sickness, his newborn son died. He had to deal with his rebellion kin, he was troubled with his wife, Micah. Those who work under him rebelled against his leadership.David had encountered so much trouble in his life, so much more compared to what we have today but he didn’t choose to stay down.If trouble comes to you again and again, you don’t have to falter, you will do it, as David did it.

“David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.” - I Samuel 30:6

In the midst of trouble, are you finding strength in the Lord? Are you following God’s word to strengthen you? Are you letting the Holy spirit to empower you? Seek comfort in His presence and you will experience the strength of the Lord.

God has been giving us strength, He is nurturing you…from ordinary to extra ordinary.

“It’s alright to get knockdown, but it is not alright to stay down” Move up! Get up! Shape up, His blessing is upon you.

“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” - Philippians 4:12-13

We have to be a blessing v.11

This verse encourages us to get involve or we are to offer the same help to others. God is calling us to stand alongside of the people experiencing trouble and difficulties, this is what we are called to do.

Jesus Christ even came to show us how…

“just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” – Matthew 20:28

He showed us an example.

“People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God” II Timothy 3:2-4

That day will come. that is their day…that should not be our day… because today, we will stand along with Jesus, we will be making a difference…

“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.” – Acts 20:35

We will receive the reward of being a blessing. V12

Notice that this verse, the person who turned a deaf ear to those in need wasn’t alone. It says but we know nothing about this… this is the description of the world we live in today, we hear the cries, we see the need but we are busy, we play like we don’t hear or simply say “those poor people” as we go on about our business.

Jesus taught about the parable of a good Samaritan… What do we get when we do that??

The one that receive something is happy but there is more to the people who share.Within is an overflowing joy and there is more…

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Matthew 25:34-40


God has been blessing us to bless others… we are instructed to share those in need, encourage those who are troubled…the more you bless other people . . . the more you help others, the more God blesses your life.

“Give away your life; you'll find life given back, but not merely given back--given back with bonus and blessing. Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity” - Luke 6:38
