Jesus Christ, GOD, came to save!
Who is your favourite super hero?
At some time in life everyone needs someone to save them from something.
So, if you needed saving, who would you call? Let’s check out a few scenarios…
If you needed saving form a fire – firefighter!
If you needed saving from being pinned under a huge boulder – hulk – HULK SMASH
If you need saving from a broken leg or punctured skin – doctor!
If you need saving from an imminent missile attack that will wipe out you and millions of others – Iron man!
If you need saving from a broken heart, a sprain or cut, those general day to day catastrophise, or you just can’t get the lid off that jar – mum or dad!
If you needed saving from a swarm of alien attackers who are focused on world domination – justice league! [Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, Superman and Cyborg]
If you need saving from an issue you have had since birth. If you need saving from being separated both now and forever from the God who made you. Saving from the ongoing problem of doing things your own way and not God’s way - Jesus!
Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
The picture of a baby in a manger is part of our Christmas story. It is part of the historical story of Jesus birth that we remember specifically at Christmas.
Jesus who came as a baby in order that we could be saved from our sin.
…Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners… 1 Timothy 1:15
Jesus saves us from sin and the consequences of sin.
But how can a baby do that?
Because of who this baby is. This baby is Jesus! This baby is GOD!
When I was born, I was as cute and cuddly as the next baby. But I was human.
Jesus came to earth, born as a baby, and was fully human but also fully God.
Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. 1 Timothy 1:16
So, when we think about baby Jesus across the Christmas season, we need to look beyond the physical and see God.
The Son (JESUS) is the image of the invisible God… Colossians 1:15
A baby who was born but is eternal
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8
This doesn’t mean he was a baby yesterday, today and forever. This means Jesus is God yesterday, today and forever.
Jesus has always been and will always be.
And because Jesus is eternal, he not only saves us from sin but gifts us eternal life. We can be with God eternally.
…receive eternal life. 1 Timothy 1:16
Jesus saves because he has always been and will always be.
A baby who was born but is immortal
…our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. 1 Timothy 1:10
Jesus is immortal, incorruptible, he lasts for ever.
Jesus is true life for ever.
This doesn’t mean he was a baby forever. This means Jesus is God forever.
And because Jesus is immortal, he not only saves us from sin but gifts us immortality, true life. We can be right with God forever. For who?
…those who would believe in him. 1 Timothy 1:16
Jesus saves because he is true life, forever.
A baby who was born and made God visible
No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known. John 1:18
Jesus made it possible for us to see the very nature and character of God. What God is like.
