DISCIPLESHIP: FOLLOW ME

Jesus called us to be and make disciples. Be and make followers of Jesus.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…
MATTHEW 28:19
Discipleship is a relationship. A relationship that involves following the heart, ways, and mission of Jesus. It is a journey of meeting Jesus, growing in intimacy, walk, and likeness to Jesus, and equipping people to be disciple makers for Jesus.
In this series we will explore what it means to…
-
Follow Jesus!
-
Become like Jesus!
-
Learn Together!
-
Multiply ministry!
Let’s learn together what it means and looks like to follow Jesus, be changed by Jesus, and to be committed to the mission of Jesus. This is what discipleship means. What it means when Jesus says follow me!
DISCIPLESHIP: FOLLOW JESUS - MATTHEW 16:21-28

Not everyone is a leader, but everyone is a follower. We are created to follow.

Discipleship is the process by which we hear and respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ, grow in our intimacy and walk with Christ, and are equipped to serve and lead others in Jesus' name.

Discipleship is following Jesus with the same heart - Matthew 16:24
We are to follow Jesus’ example of dying to our own will and taking up God’s will. This is what it means to follow.
Do you regularly, day by day, moment by moment, examine what you want in light of what God wants for you?
Discipleship is following Jesus with the same purpose - Matthew 16:26
Jesus’ purpose was all about people’s souls. If Jesus values people’s spiritual life, then that is what we are to value.
Does how you see people reflect the same Kingdom purposes as Jesus?
Discipleship is following Jesus with the same perspective - Matthew 16:23
There are only two perspectives, the concerns of God or human concerns. God desires us to see the eternal perspective that may not answer our circumstances but does help us rise and journey through our circumstances.
What human concerns are a stumbling block in your faith?
DISCIPLESHIP: BECOME LIKE JESUS
Colossians 3:1-17
What do you want to be when you grow up? God wants us to be 'fully mature in Christ'. He wants us to become like Jesus.
Motivated to become like Jesus. It is not in ourselves to become like Jesus. It is as we fix our eyes and set our minds on Jesus, he will start, sustain and continue the process until the end.
How we become like Jesus. God calls us to participate in the process. He gives us a choice to make...
- put sin to death. Cut off it's life source/blood flow.
- put on new self. Clothe ourselves in Christ.
The choices we make shape who we become.
The results of becoming like Jesus. We experience peace in our hearts. We grow in confidence of who Jesus is and what he has done. What matters most is who we are before God (Colossians 3:4).
Who is shaping who you are becoming?
Are you growing to be like Jesus?
DISCIPLESHIP: LEARNING TOGETHER Acts 2:42-47
The process of following and becoming like Jesus may seem like it requires only individual effort, but it requires a team effort. Discipleship is not an individual process, it’s a team process.
DISCIPLESHIP: LEARNING TOGETHER IN FELLOWSHIP
Learning together is not an option for a follower of Jesus, it’s a fundamental part of who we are. This is to be the fabric of our discipleship community. An intimacy, participation, a devotion to fellowship, to learning together that will stop us becoming self-contained Christians.
How are you devoting yourself to learning together in fellowship?
DISCIPLESHIP: LEARNING TOGETHER IN UNITY
Discipleship is a learning together in unity of identity and purpose. A unity that is revealed by being together.
What marks of unity stand out at KCC?

DISCIPLESHIP: LEARNING TOGETHER FOR KINGDOM GROWTH
Learning together, discipleship, sees people saved! The fruit of discipleship is kingdom growth. People coming to faith and living out their faith.
What kingdom does your life point to?
Discipleship is not an individual process, it’s a team process.
DISCIPLESHIP AS MULTIPLICATION
Acts 6:1-7

What is God's strategy for multiplication?

The Priority of Discipleship
The leaders of the early church intentionally prioritised the words of Jesus. It was all about the speaking of the word in conversation, groups and through the public declaration.
What is your priority and focus? Is it the word?
Problem Solving for Discipleship
We will face problems and issues. Our resolution, despite our circumstances, comes from knowing God is at work. He is building His kingdom.
Outcome of Discipleship
Numbers were added because God's word was spread. As the word of God increases, so do disciples.
What is God's strategy for growth?
It is ordinary people, Bible in hand, open hearted, asking God who do you want me to share the gospel with.
